Grameen Technology Center
The Grameen Technology Center, an initiative of the Grameen Foundation USA (GFUSA), is working to eliminate poverty by leveraging the power of microfinance and information and communication technology. Founded in 2001 and based in Seattle Washington, the Technology Center is committed to developing sustainable technology solutions that address the needs of poor communities around the world. It has been involved in the village computing space in India since 2003 and its Village Phone project has successfully created thousands of locally owned, sustainable businesses in Uganda and Rwanda. The Technology Center is now exploring the possible convergence of the village computing and village phone spaces offering data services such as health information, financial transactions, or technology training through the established village phone network. GFUSA has been recognized by Fast Company and the Technology Center was a 2004 Tech Museum Laureate for its work in the ICT4D space.

Center for Internet Studies
The Center for Internet Studies at the University of Washington is an interdisciplinary research and teaching unit for the study of the global networked society. The Center’s work focuses on the impact of the Internet and other information communication technologies on economic, political and social institutions. The center’s research faculty has conducted numerous studies of the village computing space and is widely considered expert in the field.

Annenberg Research Network on International Communication
The Annenberg Research Network on International Communication at the University of Southern California studies the emergence of new communication infrastructures, examines the attendant transformation of government policies and communication patterns, and analyzes the social and economic consequences. The project is multi-disciplinary - including communication, sociology, economics, and political science approaches - and follows an international comparative perspective.
